“You have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” John 16:22
The last part of that verse, “and no one will take your joy from you” is so important to our daily lives. This joy is found in our relationship with Jesus, who thru the resurrection has given us eternal life. That means our joy cannot be cutoff from that relationship because it is an eternal relationship.
So, if that is true of us, that our joy is found in Jesus, then it is eternal. But, if we find our joy in something mortal, or finite, then our joy will be something that can taken away from us.
A lot of people will choose that in this life, they will choose to live like the example that we see in Luke 12:19 and just live their life to a fully worldly extent.
I want to encourage you, find your joy in your relationship with Jesus, not with what you do for a job, or a what your hobbies are. Only then will your joy be something that cannot be taken from you, and something that you can use an a anchor through tough times.
“Not life or death, or angels or principalities, or things present or things to come, or powers or height or depth, or anything else in all creation will be able to take our joy from us in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 8:38–39
